Flowers are constantly being send and received around the world, as people send messages of love, affection, and thanks. Flowers are such a popular gift because they are perfect for almost any occasion, from times of celebration and renewal through to times of loss and sickness. Most people choose flower arrangements and bouquets through their local florist, although there are also a number of Internet based flower delivery (Floraprima) services. Along with their versatility, flowers are also often chosen because they are easy to send away to far off destinations. International flower delivery has been available for a long time, with individual florists joined together through global relay networks. These networks have become even bigger and more widespread since the advent of the Internet, which makes it easier than ever before for people to send flowers anywhere in the world.

The processes involved with international flower delivery are fairly simple, with individual florists connect to one another through the use of a global distribution network. Depending on the jurisdiction of operation, there are a variety of these networks around the world. Whether a customer visits a florist in person or orders from a florist website, the process is pretty much the same. During the ordering process, the customer will be asked the final destination of the flower delivery, along with any messages they wish to have transcribed onto the accompanying card. If the desired address is within the boundaries of operation, the florist will fulfil the order and charge the customer for the flowers and the delivery.

In order to reach far off destinations that are often on the other side of the world, florists need to work with dedicated flower distribution networks. A floral wire service is often used, which is also known as a flower relay service. This service facilitates the order exchange that takes place between different local florists, as well as through third party agents and flower producers. Once a customer has made an order, it will be send on to the nearest affiliated florist to the final destination, with the florist there actually making up the order and both the relay service and the original florist also making money from the order.
